(World-Building: Deities and history) “The Seer, or the Bureaucrat in the modern form of the Aspect according to some Deists, was possibly the least celebrated deity of the Celestial Host and yet among the oldest archetypes known to mankind. For the ancient Pehkts, before being assimilated by the Dominion, the Aspect was the creator, the godchild Nabu-Astertis, roaming the night skies as the constellation known to them as the Boatman and to us as the Scales. All life, the Pehkts believed, is but the stories devised by the Skysailor. When astrology spread and the Dominion expanded, Nabu naturally followed as a deity of prophecy and knowledge, abandoning his boy incarnation and fusing with Orcos the Star Seer of the Seromians. It was only during the later days of the Dominion that he assumed the role that distanced him from everyday worship, as the judge of the departed, knowing, better than anyone, the secrets of all souls.” – Miklos Mulner, ‘”‘The Aspects”

Time on

(World-Building: Calendar, Holidays, Time) The liberation from the rule of the Jotnar and the coming of the Einherjar is commemorated along with coming of Runwater, usually a few weeks after the coming of Summer, if the weather is kind enough. From the day Summer starts until its announcement, the Valkyries, or women dressed as Valkyries where there are none, stand before the Great Hall of the settlement and ask loudly “Is it today? Are the chosen awake?” If silence is their response, they will howl sadly, banging their weapons together to awake the Einherjar. If Runwater has arrived, then the village elder will sound the village’s horn. Soon, all horns in the village will sound, with the “Valkyries” joining in with happy warcries. The two weeks after are spend in preparation, feasting and work, with kids dressed as Einherjar playing pranks upon their elders. At the end of those weeks, aspiring youths will depart to join the Kapp-a-Görask, the proving grounds where their mettle will be proven and their future will be decided.

(Lore Depth – Atmosphere, Culture) The time, he said, had finally come for them to be together but the only way to do that was to elope. He warned her of the night he would come for her and told her that those who knew of their love and wanted to end it would try to stop him, bidding her to protect her love, when the time came. With the Jarl’s strongest protector under leash, Leif gathered his best swordarms and attacked the city under cover of night, murdering and pillaging as they rushed towards the longhouse. Bathed in the light of houses aflame, Stokkr’s self-knit wedding dress and wild berry bouquet shone red and yellow – as did the tears in her eyes, confused and terrified, as her beloved and the people of her town clashed. Then, with little guidance but what Leif had given her, she did what she was bid to do: she protected what she loved and fell upon those who attacked the people whose kindness had raised her. Alone she fought the raiders, and alone she died. But her actions had allowed the town’s warriors to raise swords, shields, and a proper defense. Come morning, she was found surrounded by a mount of dead bodies, Leif’s body pinned under hers, and the tale was born. Reaching to embrace him, Leif stabbed her, only to be crushed under her.

(Faction feel – Suspense, Undead) “Is there a commander, a king, an emperor, a general among you?” “No.” “Then are you the only authorit…?” “Yeeees…” sighed dozens pairs of dead lips, as if with pleasure for finally admitting this; the wind carried the word and made it bounce against the sides of the rocky path, making our torches dance nervously and bringing it to our ears again and again and again. As if by reflex, their whole army had answered and, I cannot deny, it sent our hearts to race, our horses to falter, our guts grow numb and cold. All the dead had spoken. All but the Keeper.

(Faction feel – Atmosphere, Culture) “Are you here to test your courage, Shepherd?” a deep voice asked beneath the mask. The Shepherd smiled. “I have not loved or been loved, I have not seen my children’s children grow. I leave no blood behind to miss. I walked my mountains with you a hundred times over. And now, I have seen your people, here, with you. I know that you shall still be cared for and so will my lands and other lands beyond. Is it courage still, I wonder? Or is it mercy?” The Warrior’s eyes smiled. “A just question,” he replied. “Tell me, old friend. I know you wanted family, another life. Do you see wisdom in the life I set you on now?” “Let us find out, my lord,” the Shepherd said. The Warrior was quick and merciful in his test and the Shepherd never cowered.

BIO

I was born in Athens in 1984 but raised and schooled in Corfu. In 2002, I went to Athens to study and practice Law in various outfits for the next 15 years. Parallel to my work, I finished a Creative Writing Course of the University of Athens and kept pursuing my true passion, publishing my first book in 2014 and always gaming. Finally, in 2017, I took a leap, throwing away my legal hat and taking on the mantle of Lead Writer at Para Bellum Games Ltd.

For the next 8 years, I made it my personal mission to make the Conquest IP stand out and establish it as one of the best and most original fantasy settings in the market. Eight years later, I considered my mission successful and it was time to move on. I gained immense experience, had the luck to work with an impressive array of talented people, expanded my creative horizons and gained skills I had never thought before.

I am currently working on new stories and projects and on expanding my skills, including developing a TTRPG and setting, as well as shyly learning Unity.
